Early Detection for a Healthier Future

At Meadows Diagnostics, we provide comprehensive Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing to detect high-risk and low-risk strains of HPV. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) worldwide, affecting 79 million people in the U.S., with 14 million new cases each year. While many HPV infections clear on their own, some high-risk strains can lead to cervical, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers.

Our CLIA-certified laboratory uses advanced molecular diagnostics and PCR-based testing to accurately detect HPV strains, helping patients and healthcare providers take the right steps for prevention, monitoring, and treatment.

Understanding HPV & Its Risks

HPV includes over 100 different strains, with some classified as high-risk due to their potential to cause cervical, anal, penile, and throat cancers.

HPV is responsible for:
90% of cervical cancers
70% of oropharyngeal (throat) cancers
90% of anal cancers
60% of penile cancers

HPV is transmitted through:
Sexual contact (vaginal, anal, and oral sex)
Skin-to-skin contact with infected areas
Sharing personal items (e.g., razors, sex toys)

Since many HPV infections do not show symptoms, testing is essential for early detection and risk assessment.

Who Should Get HPV Testing?

Women aged 30-65 – Routine screening for high-risk HPV strains.
Individuals with abnormal Pap smears – Confirming HPV presence.
Immunocompromised individuals – Higher risk of persistent HPV infections.
Men who have sex with men (MSM) – Increased risk of HPV-related anal cancer.
People with multiple sexual partners – Higher likelihood of HPV exposure.
Individuals with genital warts – Identifying low-risk HPV strains.
Pregnant women – Ensuring safe pregnancy and reducing transmission risk.

HPV testing is primarily recommended for women, but men can still be tested for high-risk strains through anal and throat swabs if at risk.

HPV Strains Detected by Our Test

Our comprehensive HPV testing panel detects both high-risk and low-risk strains, including:

High-Risk HPV Strains (Linked to Cancer)

HPV 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68

Low-Risk HPV Strains (Linked to Genital Warts & Mild Changes)

HPV 6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 61, 72, 81, 89

HPV 16 & 18 alone cause over 70% of cervical cancer cases worldwide.
